👋 1. Introduction
Welcome to Speaky, an AI-powered English learning app for Android. Speaky helps you improve your English through interactive voice conversations, text-based chat with an AI tutor, curated reading articles, and a daily vocabulary feature — all designed to make language learning natural, effective, and engaging.
This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Speaky app. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices. By using Speaky, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
📋 2. Information We Collect
We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide and improve the app experience:
- Voice Input: When you use the speaking or pronunciation features, the app accesses your microphone. Voice data is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
- Usage Data: Anonymous data about how you interact with the app, such as features used, session duration, and learning progress, may be collected to improve the app experience.
- Device Information: Basic technical information such as device model, operating system version, and app version may be collected for diagnostic and analytics purposes.
- Advertising Data: Our third-party ad partner (Google AdMob) may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve relevant advertisements. See the Third-Party Services section for details.
- Account Information: If you sign in for the Community feature, we collect your display name, profile photo, and Google account email via Firebase Authentication.
- Community Content: Messages sent in community chats are stored on Firebase Firestore servers and are visible to other users of the Community feature.
⚙️ 3. How We Use Your Information
The information we collect is used for the following purposes:
- App Functionality: To provide core features such as AI tutoring, voice practice, articles, and the daily word.
- AI Processing: To power personalized feedback and conversation through the on-device AI engine.
- Personalization: To remember your learning preferences, progress, and settings so the experience improves over time.
- Analytics: To understand how the app is used and identify areas for improvement.
- Advertising: To display ads through Google AdMob that help keep the app free for users.
🔒 4. On-Device AI Processing
Your voice stays on your device. Speaky's AI engine runs entirely on-device. When you speak or practice pronunciation, your voice audio is processed locally by the AI model installed on your phone — it is never recorded, uploaded, or sent to our servers or any external service. This design choice is intentional to protect your privacy and ensure the app works even without an internet connection.
Text-based interactions with the AI tutor may be processed to generate responses, but are not stored beyond your current session unless you explicitly save them within the app.
👥 5. User Accounts & Community
The Community feature in Speaky allows users to interact with each other through chat. To use this feature, you are required to sign in with your Google account via Firebase Authentication.
- Your display name, profile photo, and email address are collected from your Google account at sign-in.
- Messages and profile data are stored securely in Firebase Firestore.
- Community messages are visible to other signed-in users.
- If you do not use the Community feature, you do not need an account and no account data is collected.
You can request deletion of your account and associated community data by emailing privacy@speaky.app.
🤝 6. Third-Party Services
Speaky uses the following third-party services:
- Ads Google AdMob: We use Google AdMob to display advertisements within the app. AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as Android Advertising ID), IP address, and usage data to serve personalized or non-personalized ads. This data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Analytics Google Analytics for Firebase: We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data such as session duration, feature usage, and app performance metrics. This data helps us understand how users interact with Speaky and improve the experience.
- Crash Reports Firebase Crashlytics: We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostic data, including device model, OS version, stack traces, and crash logs. This helps us identify and fix bugs to improve app stability. No personal content (such as conversation text or voice data) is included in crash reports.
- Auth Firebase Authentication: Used for the Community feature to securely sign in users with their Google account. Firebase Authentication collects and stores authentication tokens, email addresses, and profile information as described in Firebase's Privacy and Security documentation.
We do not sell your personal data to any third party. Data shared with these services is limited to what is necessary for their respective functions.
📢 7. Advertising
Speaky displays ads through Google AdMob to keep the app free for all users.
- EU/EEA Users: On first launch, you will see a consent dialog (powered by Google's User Messaging Platform — UMP) that allows you to choose whether to receive personalized ads. If you decline personalized ads, you will still see non-personalized ads that are not based on your interests or browsing behavior.
- All Users: You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time through your Android device settings under Settings → Google → Ads.
- Data Collected: AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as Android Advertising ID), IP address, and usage data to serve and measure advertisements. This data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
🗄️ 8. Data Retention
Speaky stores your learning progress, preferences, and saved content locally on your device.
- Local Storage: All app data (vocabulary progress, conversation history, settings) is stored on your device only.
- Community Data: If you use the Community feature, your messages and profile data are stored on Firebase Firestore servers for as long as your account is active.
- Deletion: You can delete all local app data at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing app data through your Android device settings (Settings > Apps > Speaky > Clear Data). To delete community data, email privacy@speaky.app.
- Advertising Data: Data collected by Google AdMob is retained according to Google's own data retention policies.
🧒 9. Children's Privacy
Speaky is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@speaky.app and we will take steps to remove any associated data.

- RECORD_AUDIO Required for the voice speaking and pronunciation practice features. Audio is processed on-device and never transmitted externally.
- INTERNET Required to load reading articles, serve advertisements via AdMob, access the Community feature, and check for app updates.
